ÓSCAR DOMÍNGUEZ (B.1906–1957)
A visionary of surrealism from Tenerife, Domínguez brought the lava fields and dragon trees of his homeland into his art through bold, volcanic imagery and the invention of decalcomanía, a technique balancing chance and symbolism. His intensely experimental paintings and objects blurred reality, myth, and metaphor. "His painting seeks to give meaning to the exercise of creative freedom, understanding art and life as a single impulse." (Curator Isidro Hernández)
