JOAN MIRÓ (1893–1983)
Miró’s playful language of stars, birds, and biomorphic forms created a dreamlike cosmos. With roots in Surrealism and Catalan culture, he defied traditional painting in favor of spontaneity and symbol. His art is held in the Fundació Joan Miró, Tate Modern, and MoMA.

"I try to apply colors like words that shape poems, like notes that shape music."
