NOBUYOSHI ARAKI (b. 1940)
One of Japan’s most controversial and prolific photographers, Araki’s work spans eroticism, love, death, and daily life in Tokyo. Known for his provocative “Kinbaku” (rope bondage) images and delicate still lifes, he blurs the personal with the performative. His photos are in the Tate, MoMA, and Tokyo Photographic Art Museum.

“Photography is love and death, two sides of the same coin."
